    Distributor Restoration

    Hello all,

Does anyone have handy a scanned copy of John Hinckley's photo-illustrated tech article on rebuilding Corvette tach-drive distributors in the December 2007 issue of "Corvette Enthusiast" magazine?

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Distributor Restoration

Louis here is another NCRS members input on rebuilding a distributor.
Transistor Ignition and points style Corvette distributors from 1962 to 1972. Fuel Injection distributors are not specifically addressed; however, many items will apply to these distributors as well. My definition of restoration is to bring a distributor back to its original appearance and function by reconditioning the original parts, replacing parts only when absolutely necessary, and using the correct parts for replacement.

      Re: Distributor Restoration

      Thanks Jim,

I had that particular article. I'm trying to get my hands on as much info as I can since I haven't removed a distributor, much less restored one. I suffered the typical failure - a sheared tach drive gear. It's difficult to tell whether the shaft drive gear is damaged without closer inspection, but I'm assuming the worst. Then, of course, there's also the matter of the extent of wear inside the housing...

Louis - I just went through the exact experience you are embarking on (never removed a distributor before). I found a copy of CA with John's artivle on Ebay for about $3.

Also, check out this site (Winter 2003 / 2004)

The task can be done successfully by a relative novice (e.g. me).

        Good luck

Glen I tried the nonethewiser site and my computer alerted me to a virus on it.

I don't have a .pdf of the article with photos to send you, but you might call the CE Customer Service desk at 800-448-3611 and order a back issue.

              Jim

My Antivirus (Avast) must be "none the wiser" - no indications of an issue on my computer
