Can anybody recomend a chrome plater around the Springfield Massachusetts area?

I can't help in your area but Quality Plating in Sterling IL did my hockey sticks this spring and did a good job, met their time and their quote. I sent my stuff to them via UPS and received it back the same way. Their web site is: http://www.qualitychromeplating.com/

I've had chrome done by various platers... there is a MAJOR difference between them. Some "load" the part with plating to the point that they no longer have their original profile/detail and sometimes won't even mate up to an adjoining piece.

I now use Frankford Plating in Philadelphia. They do an outstanding job of maintaining the detail of the part being plated. The shine/clarity is perfect.

      They advertise in the Driveline.

Take the time to understand whether the plater is utilizing Trivalent Chromate or Hexavalent Chromate as it make a difference.

Hexavalent chromate is what our older cars were plated with. If you mis-match the two processes there is a color difference which we present it self during a side by side comparison.

Librandi's did the chrome on my 58 and their workmanship was excellent. They have a booth at the Corvettes @ Carlisle and do deliver/pick up parts there.

              Steve,
Putting on to much chrome does create a mess. I had some windshield posts rechromed and when installing the upper stainless header I had to grind off some of the chrome to allow the parts to fit together. Not good at all.

I had a good experience and excellent results with Libandi's, too. I was happy with the bumpers and also with other smaller trim pieces which they re-plated for me.

Stan, Its typical for a plating shop to want to see your cores before a firm estimate can be made. They don't know how much repair work will be required before chroming without seeing it.

If you want show quality, I'd stay away from the Bumper Boyz.

I'm having some Mopar bumpers replated right now. I inquired about a replated set from Bumper Boyz & Keystone just to compare prices and they were within $25. Chrome plating costs are rising rapidly due to EPA requirements etc.

DON'T rush a plater!!!! You will probably regret it.

                        Stan,
$250+ per corner is fair if the quality is there. If you go to their shop look at a bumper sample. Show quality chrome will have NO subtle grind marks or flaws..... Some parts cost more due to the complexity of the part, not necessarily the area of the chrome...

I got my 54 grill back today from nu-chrome. It came out perfect. They are in Fall river ma. As far as the cost, I don't know. It is just plain expensive. You can probably spend a day on the phone shopping around to find out they are all about the same.

It is well worth your time to shop around. Hazardous waste and the cost of materials has driven the price crazy. As best I can tell nu-chrome is at the upper end of the price range, there are others out there, same quality, with lower pricing.

I am glad to hear that you were satisfied with New Chrome. I might give them a try. You are right on price. they are all expensive The important thing is the quality. I gave my 59 front bumpers to a local plating guy 5 months ago. I call him every two weeks and all I get is they will be ready next week.
