    C2 BB replacement motor mounts...

I am curious if anyone else has had trouble with the fit of the aftermarket replacement motor mounts. Just got a set today and there is no way these things are going to fit over the frame horns, they are at least 1/8" too narrow. Can anyone recommend a source for ones that fit?

    Thanks,
    Steve

All I can tell you is the last GM mounts (locking style since 1970) are discontinued and I know of NO comparable aftermarket mount. All of the aftermarket mounts that I've seen, and there are quite a few out there, are not up to the quality of the GM mount. Also, I've not seen one yet that was of US or Canadian manufacture.

However, if there are some out there now that are not even dimensionally correct for fitment on the frame brackets, then things have gotten REALLY bad. I'd say you may have gotten incorrect mounts for your application.

I would like to think they are the wrong mount, but I double checked the part number against another source and the ones I have are the correct PN.

It's been a few years since my last resto, and all the fond memories of dealing with aftermarket junk come rushing back all at once. Where is the quality control

Does it say anywhere on the mount (usually embossed on the elastomer) where the mount was manufactured? I've see the following:

        India

        Israel

        Taiwan

        Korea

        China

Of course, no foreign country of origin, by itself, necessarily makes the mounts bad. However, most have thinner metal components than original mount assemblies. Also, there is usually a rather "crude" overall appearance as compared to original GM mounts. I've also heard a fair number of complaints of these foreign mounts not holding up to engine torque, especially higher output engines.

As far a a fitment issue, this is the first I've heard of that problem.

By the way, the issue of the mounts breaking due to engine torque ought to give anyone pause when considering using the 63-69 style, non-locking mounts. ESPECIALLY considering the apparent "degeneration" of manufacturing quality of these mounts, I'd only recommend using the locking style. That way, if they do break, one is "protected" from the vile consequences.

These particular mounts were made in India. Anyone who questions why NOS prices are so high apparently never worked with any repro parts.

Can anyone confirm if the '65 BB mounts were of the same as '66?

            Thanks,

No, they were not the same. The 1965 and 1966 motor mounts were slightly different. However, they are 100% FUNCTIONALLY interchangeable.

I assume then they were dimensionally the same?

I bought a set from Paragon for my 66 BB, and they fit fine. I compared them to my original ones before instalation and did not see any differences.

All of the dimensions affecting fitment are the same. Some other non-fitment related dimensions may be a little different.

I seen those mounts, sounds like a good choice for a stock appearing replacement, it is an import as well nevertheless. There however are not many choices out there, import replacements, perhaps finding a NOS set which you would be dealing with 40 year old rubber, or an aftermarket poly set like an Energy Suspension mount.

The suspect mounts have been returned, and at this point I think I'm going the poly mount route. Thanks for all the responses.
