Here's my #2 wire with distr. cap connector completely corroded to point of separation. I removed boot, brushed the end core wire to bright copper, then connected ohmeter to both ends -- getting no reading, so the wire is probably dead. Surprisingly, the plug was not that badly fouled

Now I've heard that the repro wires, in addition to being of questionable electrical integrity, have braiding that is of a larger mesh (easily detectable). Anyone ever tried removing the original braided shielding and threading a good wire (like the Delco 508R recommended by Joe L and Duke) ?
This wire is from a GM set I bought in the late 80's; Gr 2.239 #8912284. I think you can see the date code 2D87.
