    1977 Corvette Fan Clutch

How do I tell if a fan clutch for a 77 Vette is original? I need one for an L48, A/C, Auto. One source told me they say "Eaton", the other source said they are stamped with GM part # 372502.

Anyone know for sure? I do not have a 77 judging manual, so any help is appreciated.

Actually, I don't think that either "Eaton" or "372502" were stamped on the GM #372502. Supporting this is the fact that the 372502 is "fully adorned" with fins, front and rear. So, there are really few places where "Eaton" or "372502" could be stamped. However, on the face there are 3 small, more-or-less flat surfaces spaced 120 degrees apart. On one of these surfaces is ink-stamped "AZ". "AZ" is the broadcast code for this clutch. I don't think there was anything stamped on the other 2 small surfaces.

Thanks for the reply. Do you have any pictures of an original AZ that I could see as reference pictures?

      Thanks.

This is a SERVICE GM #372505 that was manufactured about the same time as your car was built. It should be identical to the PRODUCTION part. This picture is not real clear as I took it quite some time ago and didn't do a very good job with it, but you can see where the black, "AZ" ink stamp is located and other features of the face of the clutch.

Thanks very much Joe. Hey listen, before I purchase an original one, do you think I would be able to forward you the pictures, so you can tell me your feeling on originality? If so, please PM me your e-mail.

          Thanks!
