    How do I paint my rims

    I need to paint my rims on my 1960 Vette. What type of paint did the factory use, was it the same type of paint as the car body. I know it's the same as body colour for 1960 which in my case it's black just not sure what type of paint is meant to be used.

    Stewart,
    Not sure if I am 100% correct, but most folks I know that are restoring C1's have the rims(wheels) painted at the same time the car is with the same paint. Hope that helps...

      Stewart: First paint the entire wheel black enamel,then paint the rim face
      body color (enamel),some of the body color overspary should be
      visable on back side of rim.Paint the spare the same way.

        The wheels were dip-primed (semi-gloss) black primer, then the front face was sprayed with gloss wheel enamel.

          I got an auto paint store to mix my color, Roman Red, and put it into spray cans. I sprayed them 6 or 7 years ago and they still look great and match the body color fine.

            follow john hinkley's advice but do it without dipping. use a semi-gloos black to paint the entire wheel, then use an enamel(color of exterior) to shoot the exposed surface of the rim, allowing some overspray of body exterior color to get thru the four openings of the wheel. judges will love it.mike

              Stewart;

              Whatever you do, don't spend too much money or try to make them look too good. It's not worth it. I did that a number of years ago - had a professional shop do mine in best/hardest/most durable paint, and today they are all chipped around the edge of the rim, and the wheel covers have put the usual gouges in them anyway. I changed tires once more since then and put on new brakes, and the usual rotations, etc., and each time you remove the covers and/or wheels they incur more damage. I have touched them up several times, but just a little road driving takes it's toll.
