    67 Mast Cyl leakage issues

    I figured out the hard way that my White Post restored master cylinder was bad when it started leaking brake fluid all over the floor. I pulled the cylinder and discovered that the circlip that holds the piston in place was partially loose and began shredding the brass sleeve from the movement. I just sent back to Billy to redo it. Hopefully they can replace the sleeve and it will be fully resolved when I get it back this time.

    I have a couple of questions that perhaps someone can answer:

    1. Since there was a significant amount of fluid coming out the back of the cylinder, what is the probability of fluid contamination inside the booster?

    2. What is the proper depth of the piston inside the bore? (e.g., how far from the lip of the bore should the securing circlip be). Mine was about 5/8" and I'm wondering if it was in too far to begin with.

    Thanks in advance for your wisdom

    1) The booster is "sealed"; there should be no intrusion of leaked fluid into the booster;

    2) From the rear face of the primary piston to the end of the bore should be about 3/16" and nowhere near 5/8"

      Thanks Joe. You've confirmed what I suspected on both counts. The excessive depth of the piston inside the bore would account for the excessive pedal travel that I described in an earlier post. With all of the negative feedback on White Post I am hoping they will get it right this time...

        I was considering White Post for a 509 for rebuilding, but not now. Who is good for this....?

          Hi Brandon:

          I measured an original DC master cylinder that have on the shelf, and the distance from the back of the bore casting to the face of the piston is approximately .170 inches.
