McLaren Corvette?

I just heard a story about somebody that bought an 80s Corvette very cheap, about 10-15 years ago and discovered it was a racecar built by McLaren.

I've never heard of a Corvette racecar built by McLaren.

Has anybody?

Can't say I've ever seen a McLaren Corvette, but it's not too hard to fathom. McLaren and Chevrolet cooperated on a number of ventures, not the least of which was their very successful Can Am car with the ZL-1 all aluminum big block engine. Also, they have had any number of limited production specials for which they teamed up with different auto mfg's.

Sounds interesting. I'd like to see what it was like.

The several Corvette history books in my library cover every racing venue that Corvettes even participated in. The 80s C4 models were big in SCCA Showroom Stock racing, and were so dominant that SCCA created a separate series for them - The Corvette Challenge.

I don't recall any mention of a "McLaren Corvette" racer in that era.
