well, for those who may care - am sitting round 1400 miles driven since I started out from Balmer on Monday afternoon - am posting from Branson, MO after attending the Dixie Stampede and drinking a local bar out of Maker's Mark (they only had two bottles for three of us!) - the tartop battery is performing well and Lady is averaging right at 18.3 mpg - life is good!

Re: Road TourUpdate
Rick
I'm intrigued and impressed with your mileage numbers of 18.3mpg. Is that typical for a well tune FI system? What axle ratio do you have? What kind of speeds have you been driving?
My Holley equipped 66 SB roadster with 3.36 gears averaged 14.8mpg over 5200 miles on a trip this summer. Frankly that was what I expected. The best mileage we got was the last day in the flat lands where we averaged around 16mpg driving 75mph on interstates.
I know mpg discussions can be pointless but I am really impressed with what you are getting on the trip. I hope you're not slipping a little Maker's Mark in the tank. That might be dangerous... and a waste of good whiskey!!!
Good luck on your Duntov this weekend.

Re: Road TourUpdate
Hi Rick
Good to see you're having fun.
Branson??? not exactly a straight shot to St. Charles.
Looks like you may be exceeding your mileage requirements.
How many miles do you expect to drive on this little excursion?

Re: Road TourUpdate
speeds have varied over the course of the trip - the 2 hour jaunton Monday from my house to Front Royal was at abut 70 mph - rest of the trip been leading the old cars and have truck/trailer combo, so try to stay right around whatever the speed limit happens to be
have 3.70 rear in the car with the 327 fuellie - burning 93 octane and car just purrs along - wants to get up and go every now and again - car that are behind me all tell me they know when I kick it up, as they see a small puff of smoke and I am gone!

Re: Road TourUpdate
I hope that you and others that have done road trips for any reason take lots of photos and create a web site for us to enjoy vicariously.
My job situation has changed and I HAVE NOT DRIVEN MY LT-1 yet this yearso I need a Corvette fix from those of you who do drive. So, who out there has a road trip web site?

A word of caution before you follow Clem's advice. Looking at the long list of Corvette's he has owned reveals that he has never had one from the 70's. His advise may be a clever ploy to free up your LT1, followed by an offer. I suggest you be careful here.
If you need to live vicariously this summer through other's travels, and you haven't been there yet, check out the web site below for the blog on our trip out Route 66, and back, this summer.
I hope you get a chance to exercise the LT1 this summer. If not, there's always next year!
Cheers

Re: Road TourUpdate
Mike,
After I posted the original message, I saw your URL and did some reading. Nice. Now, on to Clem. This car is a keeper so no secret offers or ploys will be allowed.Besides, having a good job and good health is more important that having that extra bit of time to play with the toys.

I'm suspect there was no secret ploy on Clem's part, but if there was... hat's off to him.I must say I am jealous of the list of Corvette's he has owned, all new, spanning 50 years.
Enjoy Carlisle. One of these year's I'll make the run out to check it out.
