    68 ront spindle

Are the 68 front spindles unique to that year? Some how I remember a discussion several years ago that there was a slight difference between the 67 and the 69-70's spindles? Thanks phil 30079

69 and up have larger bearings.

I can't tell you for sure if they are unique, but I'm pretty sure the '68 uses the smaller wheel bearings same as the 63-67's. '69 and later use larger front wheel bearings.

Search the archives, I believe this is covered. If my memory serves me, the 68's had smaller bearings like the 67's (whereas the 69's and up had larger bearings) but the 68's had larger diameter bolts going through the spindle and steering arm like the 69's and up (whereas the 67's had smaller diameter bolts). Another example, I believe, of a 68 only part. Someone had switched my right spindle and steering arm with one from a 67, the bearings matched the left side but the bolt holes were smaller. I sourced a 68 spindle and steering arm and corrected the issue.

The 1968 front spindles ARE a one-year-only item. As Michael mentioned, 1968 used the "small" spindle shaft and bearings a la 1963-67. However, it used 1/2" bolts (like 69+) instead of the 63-67 style 7/16" bolts. The difference in the bolt size caused a slight difference in the forging.

The 69-82 front spindles can be used on a 1968 IF the hub and bearing assembly is also changed. However, if a 68 is so-converted I would not do it for one side only.
