    1967 Side exhaust

Look at these pictures, these are NOS side exhaust pipes for a big block. I took the stickers off myself. The problem is how far they come out here at the front just behind the tire. Passenger side is just fine. I am afraid these are not going to fit when the body is on. Look how far away from the frame this pipe is at the front compared to the back. Any ideas of what could be wrong or how to fix?

    Thanks
    Jeremy Hedges

Here is a straight down shot on one that fits.

The pipe looks ok. The left is tighter than the right. I don't have a photo looking down the pipe but this side view might ease your mind a little

Looks like it should be fine. You might be able to adjust it inward a bit by loosening the nuts on the manifold studes, adjusting, and then re-tightening. It has a sortof 'donut" insert that allows for repositioning of pipes.

          Hope this helps,
          Brandon

I can't get my first knuckle (0.50 in. with a digital caliper) between the driver's pipe and the frame (from the bottom). The pipe is about 1/4 inch from the cover. My knuckle goes easily between the passenger pipe and the frame. That pipe is about 3/4 inch from the cover. (This is in the area where the frame is full width and the pipe is round.) So I have a lot more clearance on the passenger's side than the driver's side...

Jeremy -- here's a shot off my NOS set. Although there's distortion in the pic, an imaginary vertical line to the floor, drawn through the center of the manifold opening, and then horizontal distance to intersect the longitudinal centerline of the chambered pipe, measures 23 inches (+/- 1/4").

Also, if you take a stiff electrical cable or cord, and snake it along the pipe from the circumferential weld at the chambered pipe, to the edge of the flange (all on top side of pipe), should measure 31 inches.

                Hope this helps.
