    Re: Flight Judging Question

[quote=Kevin Goodman (43429);358311I don't see the comparison between Bloomington Survivor and Bowtie/Duntov? Besides the percent of originality differences, the road trip at Bloomington doesn't add up to a PV plus the 10 mile road course and three 97% needed for the Duntov? Thoughts?

    Kevin[/quote]

Bloomington "Survivor" only requires 50% originality for each of the four areas, and allows you to fail one area completely and still qualify for the award (pass 3 of the 4 and you're OK). There's no judging or performance check on the Bloomington road drive - you drive it by yourself, and you just have to drive it 40 miles. BIG difference between that and Star/Bowtie judging.

The intent of the orginal note was to see where I stand in that certification since I didn't restore nearly anything on the car and it is not the best in condition, be it quite original. I hope that the Chapter judges could offer some advice. Not ever thinking I had a Bowtie candidate but concerned that I wouldn't do well in the Flight judging because I didn't pretty thing up and left them mostly alone.
Jack, I completely understand where you are. Not very long ago I was in your shoes. If only there was a pre-Bowtie inspection service, I thought at the time? Now I'm glad there is not such a service. Through the process I learned more about 70-72 Corvettes then I thought possible. Not that I'm an expert but I know now what I have. Along with the knowledge I made the best friends in my life! You will have as much help as you need.

Lyle, You will no doubt be contacted in the future about your car. Thanks for the luck on the Founders! It's a lot of work!

John, Exactly my point, no comparision. My car has been through the Bloomington process with the final result of a Benchmark. The thing is it was all done by the previous owner, so I'm still learning. The awards did come with the car, including the Benchmark Spinner Trophy!

      Regards,
      Kevin

Benchmark Spinner?? Really?? -- that's a new one. One of one, I think.

Try Gold Spinner -- that one has a few other participants.

OOPS? Thanks for the correction Terry, I had to look at it again, it's actually the Triple Crown Trophy with the Spinner on it.

Well I was close. I kind of knew what you meant -- just wanted to pull your leg some. Us anal folks are like that.

That's OK I deserved it! The PO was very kind to have given me all that he had earned, with the exception of a Frankenmuth(sp) Trophy.

Terry, looking forward to seeing you this week, if you have a free moment I have something I'd like to show you,OK?

Kevin, It will be easier for you to find me in the crowd -- probably half the folks there will know me by sight -- and I don't exactly blend into the woodwork. Look me up.

I am having so much fun on these Ozark roads. I hope they don't put me in jail. I just can't find higher octane than 91 any more. We must be at altitude that no one needs real gas down here.

The detailed sequence is in the "Corvette Judging Reference Manual" (which is a "must-have" for any member interested in having his car judged), but the simplified version is that the car must be judged at a Regional AND signed off there by the appropriate National Team Leader as a Star/Bowtie candidate in order to be eligible for consideration for Star/Bowtie judging at the next National Convention, assuming there's room for it in that judging Division.
