This thread seems to have digressed from the point that the original poster was making. I gravitated towards this forum several months ago because it seemed to be "above the fray" - more focused on our common interest in the Corvette hobby and less on political/social drivel that has the potential to divide us (and which often prevails on some of the other forums - and now here). Silly me.

Jeff, if you consider the future of our national security, and the health of our ecology, to be silly "political/social" drivel, you should dig a deeper "head-sized" hole in the sand for yourself.

True, the NCRS TDB ain't NPR, but it is the forum we have. The cost of petroleum and it's use as vehicle fuel is a non-partisan issue that is eventually going to affect EVERY American...it doesn't matter how much money they have. The influence on Corvette ownership will be indirect, but it will be real.

After thrity years, there's plenty of blame to assign to both political parties, so don't be concerned we're targeting your favorites here. This issue has the unusual effect of causing many that actually "THINK" about what's best for the country, to REVERSE their thinking: Formerly, I was a person that believed "least government is best"...I now believe this to be a national emergency that requires intelligent, decisive government intervention for our lifestyle to survive long term. Will we get such action?...the track record doesn't look good for that.

            Chuck,
For the record, I don't disagree with your posts (except that you think my head is in the sand ). Regarding national security and ecology, I spent my career as an environmental engineer with the govt. I had top secret clearance, as I was responsible for contingency planning to address environmental disasters in the event of a national emergency, including terrorist attacks. Consequently, I feel as though I'm fairly well versed in those areas. With that said, my comments were not intended to support or target any particular political perspective. Yes, politics can certainly play an important role in the future of our hobby, and I have no problem with issues being discussed and debated respectfully, as they have been throughout most of this thread. It troubles me, however, when the content of a post starts to sound like unsubstantiated negative political ad material. Goodness knows, we're all up to our intakes with that nonsense. I reread the thread and perhaps my post was a bit of a late night, knee-jerk reaction to a couple of tongue-in-cheek comments that I misinterpreted. My apologies, especially to Stuart Fox, for contributing to this discourse going off-course.
            Regards,
            Jeff
PS - And Ridge, I appreciate your comments as well. I too have only been a member of the NCRS for a few years and had similar misconceptions prior to joining. It is hands-down the BEST place to go for information.
