1970 Convertible Rear Window Defroster Option

Does anybody have info/pictures of what the rear window defroster switch and knob look like for a 1970 (68-72?) convertible? The blower spins well when I jump the loose wires, but my driver's console extension is missing. I believe this is where the switch resides. Is it a turn switch or detent type? Thanks.

Turn switch. I believe center is off -- but stand to be corrected by owners of this option. Different speeds (two) by direction. Knob is round chrome -- although I think the knob is plastic with a chrome-like surface. Edge has serrations, much like the black knob that shuts off the wipers under the steering column, but somewhat smaller diameter.

Thanks Terry. I'm trying to learn more about this specific option. I believe it's rare for the convertibles, not sure if they had laminated rear window defroster for the coupes in 1970.

        Mark,

Defroster switch/knob is indeed located in center of drivers side forward console side extension. Knob looks like the headlamp knob on Caprices, Impalas of '69 year. Center is off, forward is low speed, backward is high speed.

Coupes had a defroster vent located in upper rear sail quarter panel that blew ambient temperature air onto rear window.

Thanks Warren for the clarification -- it has been so long since I did a PV on one of those my memory was fuzzy.

            Marc,
The Hot Wire Defrosters on Coupes appeared in '76.

As to the knob for the fan defroster from '68 to '73 ('74 started with use of a black rocker type toggle switch) it is the same as a '67 radio knob but without the black painted center. Off is center position with Low speed in Counter clockwise turn and High in Clockwise turn from center.

            Hope that info helps.

            Bob

Marc, my 69 has that option. Send me an email if you need a pic.

Here is a photo of the knob in my 70. I believe it to be original.
This is my first photo post so no guarantee as to my success.

I am a new member that just searched this thread. I have a 1971 with this option and missing the blower motor and mounts. Any chance I can get a picture of how it mounts and set up? Also I think I have tracked down the blower motor, but want to make sure I am buying the correct part. Thanks for your help.

                    Vince,

Going from memory (uh oh) I beleive the illustrations in the AIM are quite clear and helpful in this respect. Look up the pages for option C50.

Thanks Mike. I've been using the Overhaul, chassis, Fisher Body Service manual and it looks like I need to pick up an AIMS book.

This is extremely helpful. When I get my AIMS book my mission to replace the missing pieces will begin. I greatly appreciate the time you took to snap the pictures. Happy New Year.

                            Hello Marc,

I talked with Dave out in CA who has some parts for me. As he and I talked there were a couple of questions that came up regarding a carve out in the wheel well. Just to clarify, your 1970 is a convertible? Apparently some of the cars had a carve out in the wheel well to accommodate the motor. Do you see a dish sized carve out? The other thing to verify is the mounting points. I snapped a couple of pictures to see if you have a similar in your screw mounting area (I can't make out from the picture). I have what appears to be 6 holes that were filled in that you can see from the picuture inside the trunk. The second picture is of the trunk area from outside of the car along the driver's side frame rail. It appears there may have been some sort of metal supports that are missing. Do you have a metal support bracket on the outside of the trunk? Thanks, Vince
