    1964 fuel pump rplacement

I replaced a leaky fuel pump on my 1964 roadster. Now I know I put it on the correct way ,but its not pumping ! I made sure the fuel pump rod was held in the up position while I put the pump on,(held it in place w/some lithium grease).Every part from the fuel line up was reinstalled correctly, but no fuel is being pumped into the carb. I cant think of anyother reason for it not to work (maybe its defective )? any other guesses?

Darrell not positive that your 64 block has this, but my 68 and 70 blocks do.
On the passenger side at the front of your block you should see a bolt that is in line with fuel pump rod as it comes down from the camshaft contact. This bolt will be a short one. When this bolt is removed it will give access to the fuel pump rod. Install a longer bolt and when you know that the fuel pump rod is retracted on the bottom of the camshaft lobe, finger tighten this longer bolt which will hold the fuel pump push rod in the retracted position and install your fuel pump.

      Darrell,

I am not trying to be smart but are you sure there is gas in the tank and you don't have it jacked up where the fuel is away from the pick up tube on the tank sender. Other than that, did you disconnect the line at the carburetor and try cranking while filling a can.

Who overhauled the pump? It may be time to overhaul your original if that's what you took off.

Tim that thought did occur to me . The fuel tank had about 3 inches in it ,and the front end was up on ramps. So i lowered it back on the ground ,and added 5 more gallons.Still nothing. I bought the pump from corvette corvette central, never had a problem w/them.I am going to rebuild the old pump ,just to have a spare.
