The TM says the stencil is located on the psgr side frame rail. From pictures in restoration books it would seem logical that it would mean on the vertical outside rail behind the rocker trim. NOT!! I also ck'd archives but didn't find anything for the 72... did find for the 71 but the stencil wasn't at that location either. I gently cleaned the whole length of the rail. Found overspray just ahead of the rear tire and a green (what appears to be grease crayon mark) on the frame just below the vertical break between the door and front fender. The image appears to be a "Y" laying on its side. Not sure what it means????
The next possibility is the somewhat angled portion of the rail running with the length of the frame joining the vertical and bottom flat portions of the frame. I'm in the process of removing the undercoating, while trying to preserve the very thin paint on the frame. As I'm the original owner, I've recently learned in the past year it appears to be a Bowtie candidate. Of course I'd like to futher document the car as well by locating the stencil.
Any suggestions out there where else to look for the stencil? Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
