Guess I'll still have to wait for the hard copy. It'll take that long to download with my dail-up modem. Sorry, that's all I can get in my location.

Wayne, check out www.hughesnet.com for home Internet satellite service. Sure beats the heck out of dialup. Gary....

Thanks for the availability on-line. Guess I can take the print edition out of my briefcase and look at it on-line at work, on breaks of course ;-).

Having a user-friendly web site like NCRS has now, I can see a possible increase in memberships for the wealth of information available in print and on-line. Wonderful archives on the discussion boards, too.

Fantastic job to all involved!!!! Working in the printing industry, I know all to well when something appears to be as simple as "Posting it online", it is most of the time not that simple at all. Thanks very much to all for this new convenience!

Hello, thanks for this new service. I have had some problems to receive the magazines in my country (unknown reasons) in the last year.

                  Congratulations!!

                  Best regards

                    Re: Driveline On-Line

                    Hi all,

The Driveline on line is great news! Since I just got my July-August Driveline, anything is an improvement! However, I noticed that it isn't being made available until 10 days after the hard copy is mailed and I am not sure why this is. But this is the secondary problem in my humble opinion.

The primary problem with the Driveline to date has been the very long lead time between ad submittal and publication. I don't know if it would be technically difficult or not, but I was sort of hoping that the online version would be a real-time Driveline, so that items for sale would be posted right away. As it is, ads for items for sale can be up to two months old as soon as the current Driveline comes and it is another two months before the next one. This makes it very difficult for those restoring cars and needing parts yesterday to get their cars to the next event.

Since the NCRS understandably wants the Driveline to be a viable means for advertizers to promote their wares, a real-time Driveline would encourage those looking for parts and services to visit daily and perhaps see these folks' ads regularly and maybe contact them and buy something. Having the Driveline static would mean that you search once and then don't return until the next issue comes out. I wonder if advertisers would see added value in a real-time Driveline?

                    Thanks,

                    Bob

                      Re: Driveline On-Line

                      Hello all,

First - thanks to all of you that have labored on this project and continue to do so. Great job!

Second - I'd like to echo Erik and Joel's suggestion for a single document in addition to the separate files. Separate files are useful and need to remain for dial-up users. (Per Wayne's comment, maybe the separate files need to be smaller, resulting, unfortunately, in more of them. By the way, Wayne, are you trying to download/save each file first, or open it first, then save it? Downloading first is much faster. I do wonder, however, when using a dial-up, as long as the call is free or untimed, whether downloading a huge single file over a number of hours while you sleep isn't better than a number of smaller ones, which you have to attend to individually.)

Word searching within a PDF can be tedious to begin with, but even leaving out the event calendar and store pages, having to do it a dozen or more separate times because of the separate files is really cumbersome. Also, since it is more efficient to first download the file(s), then search them, two steps vs. 24 is a no-brainer.

By the way, the 16 files of the current Driveline add up to approximately 116 MB, and after downloading them, I had them open at the same time along with other applications, so the size of the giant single file isn't unmanageable.

                      Regards,

                      Louis

You guys do whatever works best for you. At 7 minutes per 1 MB, I won't be playing this game.

                          Louis,

There are a number of free apps on the net to merge pdf files (check via Google on "pdf merge").

                          regards,
                          Rob.

                            Hi Rob,

True, but one still has to perform a dozen or more file downloads before merging them via software. And these steps have to be performed by each member with the issuance of each new Driveline (in addition to finding and installing suitable software). A single file would save many of us a lot of work.

                            Regards,

                            Louis
