Door Panel Sound & Vapor Barrier 1968-1972

Did all 1968-1972 vets come from the factory wih vapor barriers? Has anyone installed the mid america motorworks door panel and vapor barrier packages? How did they work? Someone said there was a point reduction if you can see the material---why if they originally came with a barrier. What is the secret for getting doors panels tight to the door. That will be one of my projects this winter. Thanks.

I think the vapor barrier was more imporant on the original door panels that were made of the pressed cardboard like material to keep it from warping. The new panels have a plastic backing and the vapor barrier is needed less the way the cars are used today.
The deduction for seeing the vapor barrier is probably due more to poor panel fit and all brands I have used have issues with the fit.

I've been able to see the vapor barrier present on many original cars, so I do not know why you'd ever receive a deduction for that.

Ditto! The plastic was installed in a hurry and held loosely in place with a bead of simple rope caulk. Typically, judges have to peek/probe to see it, but I've seen original cars with reasonably 'shoddy' installation placement of their vapor barriers....

          Hi Paul,
The vapor barriers on my 71 are 'vacuum formed', and quite intricately cut to conform to the shape and surface of the door and door panel. I'm not sure if the Mid America barrier is more than a flat piece of poly material. I believe I saw an article in a magazine a few months ago that showed the installation of the shield and I believe it was flat. Perhaps someone has seen them and can reply.
          Regards,
