I need help from '66 owners!
I've searched the archives and I can't find the answer to several questions about the frame stencil that I bought from Quanta (in 2003 and I'm just getting around to using it...) for my July build date '66. The Quanta stencil consists of the following two lines of numbers:
303196-28
3871317-7-1-66
If I paint the stencil on with the frame upside down, when the frame gets turned over the 303196-28 number will then be closest to the ground. Both the third edition and the fourth edition of the 1966 TIM&JG say: "The part number 3871317 appears closest to the ground". So, I have several questions. Is the TIM&JG correct or is Quanta correct in terms of which number is closest to the ground when the car & frame are back together right side up? Secondly, did late build date '66s have the date (e.g., 7-1-66) part of the stencil as opposed to marked in grease at I thought was correct for '65 and '66?
As an aside, the stencil Quanta sent me is actually inconsistent with their Technical Bulletin #7, dated 7/12/89, that came with the stencil since that bulletin shows the 3871317 number closest to the ground when the frame is rightside up. So their 1989 technical bulletin agrees with the '66 TIM&JG, but their stencil doesn't. Does anyone know if Quanta has a revised Technical Bulletin #7 with a revision date newer than 7/12/89?
Thanks,
Gary
