67 350 Block Weight and shipping??

I tried weighing this 350 block from a 67 SS Camaro at home for shipping. Not real successful. I think it weighs about 150lbs. If it is over 150LBS. then UPS and Fedex will not take it. How to crate to keep the weight down will be a problem. Does anyone know what these blocks weigh? Has anyone shipped a block recently? If so, who was the shipper, how much did it cost, and how was it crated? This block may be going from North Dakota to South Carolina. Thanks For your time.

FedEX has a truck freight division. Give them a call.

They'll take the engine on a pallet and ship it.

My guess is that it's WAY over 150#.

You can ship "terminal to terminal" (cheaper). Your buyer will have to pick it up at his local terminal.

You can ship direct "to his door" (more expensive), and arrangements have to be made for delivery and unloading. (not the truckers responsibility)

When I bought my 4 post lift, I picked it up at the freight terminal, for me in Baltimore.

      Dick,
Prior posts have indicated that bare SB blocks are over 150 lbs.(160-180)

        Dick,

This is what I found on the approximate weight
Around 200 lbs. Depending on block material and block type. Aluminum blocks are around 100lbs.

I recently purchased a hardtop for my 68 and the seller used this site for shipping:
        www.uship.com

        Hope this helps.

check with your local "auto parts recycler" (junk yard) and see if they can ship it. when i shipped engines i did it thru a local auto parts recycler. i crated them up and took them to the yard. the bare blocks weight about 180#

I have found this site useful a few times. It lists weights for complete engines

UPS has a freight division as well. UPS LTL (less than Truck Load)

One last thing: UPS LTL can pick it up at your house or at a commercial address. They have trucks with lift gates and without. Without results in a cheaper freight bill but the option is there if you need it.

You need to get it strapped onto a pallet. Don't really need to cover it. You can usually find pallets for free if you drive around industrial parks, or areas where there's factories.

The trucking company you choose will pick it up. But they all want to pick it up from a loading dock with a forklift. They will then bring it to a trucking terminal near your house. They expect you to pick it up from their local trucking terminal. They have forklifts at their local terminal, and can put it into the back of a pickup for you.

They can deliver it to your house. But it's very expensive. And they only drop it at the curb. They will not maneuver it into someplace.

I did this about a year ago. There's a web site that'll get you a few quotes and insure it. Don't have the name handy.

Coincidentally, I received an offer for this block today from a parts dealer in Califonia. I called in refernce of other parts he may have and I mentioned my block. He wants me to roll it up in cardboard and set it on a pallet. He claims his shippers usually shrink wrap them. I work at a Coal mine and we have pallets and crates of all sizes coming in. They all get throw out. He says a bare 350 block weighs in at about 150lbs.. Again, this is a bare block with only the main caps left on. Thanks for the help.

An engine rebuilder I used, a performance shop, used plastic crates with a lid that did not require a pallet. I assume they are pretty expensive now. They were around $65.00 ten years ago. Pallet will be least expensive but a bit more cumbersome.
