Telephone Directories on Internet - Past Years?

Just found one of the classified ads that listed my Corvette for sale many years ago. It shows area code and phone number of the seller. If I have the date, or at least the year of (the newspaper) publication, is there a way to find the phone user? In other words, do a "reverse look up" for a given time in the past?

Tom, I worked in telecom for 26 years and my first job included directories. Most telcos do not keep old listings except in some incomplete libraries which is rare. You may try the following:

www.loc.gov
www.oldtelephonebooks.com
www.telephonetribute.com

The first, www.loc.gov, is your best chance.
