    Any L79 experts?

If anyone has a totally correct 65 L79, I could use some help. How is the oil filler tube supposed to be oriented. What was originally used on the threads of the heater hose nipples, teflon paste? Any pictures you could provide would be great. I'm trying to do all the plumbing. Thanks!

    Steve -

The oil fill tube on the L-79 is oriented by the position of the nipple for the PCV hose that goes to the fitting on the driver's side of the carb - see photo below. There was no sealant of any kind used on the original heater hose nipple threads.

Thanks for that John. I have another question if you don't mind. The large hole in the block, (about 1" diameter) just adjacent to the distributor hole in the manifold. It's about and inch and a half deep with a bowl shaped bottom and a small hole in the center. What goes in there, some kind of breather?

Maybe these will help. Vent tube is used on C2 small blocks with air cleaner and fuel injection.....shown in place is from a 350 HP 65. Bolt picture is of an original with washer and gasket. There is also a special cut black gasket between the block and vent tube.

Thanks Gary! So my 65 L79 should have one of these? Where does the other end of the vent go to?

If you have the correct air cleaner, you need the rubber hose to connect the vent tube to the air cleaner base. The original hose has a nice little "GM" stamp on it which the repro guys sell. See another picture attached from a 1965. Note there are no clamps used. It just pushes on each end. If you need pictures of something else, I have plenty of pictures from original cars and would be glad to send you direct. Uploading pictures to the forum is a pain in the butt! My emailer works much faster as I can just drag them in from a file. Email me at seymour@sosbbs.com If you are doing the plumbing, the right side of the air cleaner is even more fun....
