When I got my '61 up on a lift, I see that in the area under where the gas tank is there are two holes on each side, that appear to be maybe 5" or 6" in diameter. I can see the gas tank through the holes and what appears to be the fuel line coming from one. Also at about the same disctance from the rear of the car, but in the middle, I see three holes that line up front to back that each appear to be maybe 3" in diameter, through which I can again see the tank. What are all of these holes for, and shouldn't there be somethiing that is supposed to plug them up?

Re: '61 Floor access holes ??
Richard, they are not only access holes as Dennis points out, but gas tank fume ventilation as well. Don't cover 'em up. Gary....NCRS Texas Chapter

Richard
The ground wire they are referring to goes from the gas tank sending unit down to a clean spot on the frame. You will have to drill a hole in the frame and grind it down so as to make a good ground. This is done because Corvette's of that era in general, have grounding problems. Most apparent is a gas gauge that bounces as the turn signals click.

Re: '61 Floor access holes ??
Run the wire nearby or alongside the gasoline feed line. Right where the gas line goes from vertical to horizontal on the outside of the passenger side frame rail, there's a gas line clamp. Connect the ground wire under that clamp. Clean the frame there and the clamp in order to get a good connection. Dielectric grease would also help. Star type lock washers under and on top of the connector (hidden by the clamp) would help even more.
1. That'll save you from drilling another hole in the car.
2. That location helps hide the wire.- Top
