AO Smith Cars

I am looking at a 67 sb 350hp with side exhaust. Claims to be original side exhaust car but is a AO Smith car. I haven't been able to get under the car and look for the notches in the door channel to see if it is done correctly. Did they ever make any AO Smith side exhaust cars in 67? Is it a definate loss of points during judging if it is AO Smith?

This subject has been discussed and debated many, many times. The consensus is that all original factory side pipe cars have St. Louis built bodies. No AOS bodied cars with original factory sidepipes have ever been identified/proven.

John Hinckley has stated that only one set of tools existed to notch the birdcage/body for factory sideipes, and that it stayed in St. Louis.

If it is in fact a factory side pipe car, then I would really take a close look at the trim tag. Make sure the body build date and body number work with the vin number. If you are not sure, post the info.

If the car has sidepipes and they are not correct for that car then you'lll get a double hit on points...
Missing original undercar exhaust and incorrect exhaust option(sidepipes)
Incorrect rear exhaust panel etc.
