Clem Z. said in 2007: "The hole in the rear main cap where the shaft goes thru is smaller that the OD of the retainer so the shaft will not go thru when the block is upside down."
My concern is this. I have Car a Quest 601-1409 oil pump shaft with the black sleeve connector installed with a small roll pin. I call this the assembly style. It's the same length as my old one.
I also got a free nylon sleeve with the oil pump. It does not appear I need the nylon sleeve if I use the "assembly" from Car Quest.
It's true what Clem said above, but the shaft appears to "fall down" and connect (by gravity only?) when I turn the '60 283 back to the normal (upside up) position on the stand. There is no "pop bead" type of fit like I get with the old shaft and the nylon plastic connector, so it falls away from the pump when the engine is upside down...
Which is better to use?
Thanks!
