In the Oct/ Nov 1970 issue of CORVETTE NEWS there is an article about building the new 71. As part of the article there is a section about how the LT-1 stripe is put on. It includes 6 pictures, one of which shows the car being on the line while the stripe is applied. I can't tell if it's before or after body drop.
The text states that there were only a total of 3 men who did the stripe for BOTH shifts. It IMPLIES that if there was no one to do the stripe on the first shift the stripe was done on the second shift.
Where did the cars that neeeded a stripe go to wait and did the 'stripe man' travel with his equipment and supplies to where the car was?
The pictures show how much work the stripe was to mask and spray.
Regards,
Alan
