    Coil has leaked Oil

I have discovered the "correct" coil on my '68 427/390 L-36 has leaked oil from the top single wire connection. It has an o-ring seal on the top were the coil wire plugs in. I assume the oil is there to cool the coil. The coil seems to work OK but not sure if I should use it. How much oil should it have and what type of oil goes in it. I will need to get the seal fixed too, any ideas?

    Re: Coil has leaked Oil

    Terry,

The oil is there to cool the coil. If it is an original, it may be PCB oil, but that's not as deadly as those with certain agendas claim. If new, it is the modern replacement high-temp electrical oil. I'm not sure where to get this, but check maybe an electric motor place.

If your coil has leaked from the top, then it's likely full and you might just tighten the screw and forget about it. In this case, if you try and take out the screw, you might have more come out even with it upright. If it was lying on its side, it may have leaked more. The latter is the only situation where I might want to try and add more.
