    63 rear view mirror style

I have an early 63 coupe (early December build). The judging guide says that the rear view mirror on early cars had two rivets in back and no date code on the glass. My mirror has no rivets and a July, 1962 date code on the glass, which appears to be correct for later 63 cars. I am pretty sure my mirror is original.

Does anyone know when this design change was made and whether this is documented anywhere else? If you have a car built around this date, please let me know what your mirror configuration is.

    Carl:

My late November SWC (#3914) has the same mirror as you do. Believe it is dated "7DMI2"

I also believe it to be original.

HOWEVER, you will not find any comfort in any source or authority that I am aware of that you should not have the mirror with the rivets!!

It is sort of like the VACO exterior mirrors. Nobody other than Noland Adams is willing to admit they exist on 63's!!!

Hope you turn up some running change documentation.

    Maybe Mike Hanson could help.

    Regards, Tom

Yes, add Hanson to that list. I KNOW VACO outside mirror glass is correct for some early 63's. Also, the chrome back inside mirror with dated glass and no rivets is one of the inside mirrors used off and on throughout the 63 model year.

      Absolute !!
