The paper is to preserve the clear plastic.
The clear plastic is to preserve the nice satin polyurethane walnut finish.

Come on! You know how us "Corvetters" are!

Same reason why many "Corvetters" have clear plastic covers on all of their living room furniture.

Same reason why many "Corvetters" have old carpeted floor mats protecting their original, "correct" carpeted floor mats

We Corvette guys seem to have at least one thing in common; we're never satisfied! Personally, I can only hope that one day my garage shares space with a Duntov award and frankly I don't care what it looks like so long as NCRS issues it and it says Duntov on it! Congrats!

I just wonder why it took a year to get the award. Their must be a story as the 2008 Convention is only weeks away.

Lyle, I was told that the award was sent to the wrong customer from the mfg. and not returned then a new mfg. was found . I unloaded the next day and went to the hospital and lost interest in the award.

Lyle, you must have missed the story about the placques last year. It seems that UPS delivered the wrong package to Roy Sinor at the Convention. They were trenching teeth for a Bobcat trencher, not the placques. UPS never found the right package.

Stan - The Duntov awards were first given at the NCRS National Convention in Boston in 1985. That plastic plate was designed for the specific purpose of placing a picture of Duntov himself handing you the plaque at the Awards ceremony. In past years NCRS would take a picture of Duntov handing you the award and actually give you the photo to place under on the plaque under the plastic plate after the Awards ceremony. Of course now that Duntov is no longer with us, NCRS has kept the plaque design and allow you to place a nice pix of your car or the event under that plastic plate such that it can be protected forever. As a former owner of one of the first 57 283 283s (sold to a friend when I found out I was going to be a father at the age of 47) I decided to replace that empty garage stall with the finest corvette I could not afford yet had to own. Vettes have been a part of my life since the age of 15 and now I am proud to be a part of Vette history with my 65! I had a T/F 63 340 which I thought would make me content however after some research I found out the color was changed from white to red and the nose was replaced. I sold her for two reasons! She was over restored and not correct. At that point nothing less than a survivor or Duntov vette would do. Congratulations on your Duntov Vette! It truly is the finest recognition to automotive history. From 283 to 375 Zora made a mark on our beloved hobby and when I take my 65 out for a workout, I stop at the Dairy Queen to purchase 2 milkshakes! One for me and one for? Thanx and GL Ted
