Hey that sounds like one of those "Mobile Putting Greens" that the very rich folks had back in the day.

To explain the El Camino remark, Bill Clinton was at some function where he saw an El Camino. He said that he had one in his college days that had Astro-Turf in the truck's bed. You don't want to go there....!

Joe, Chevrolet assembly plants didn't retain paper build documents - they went in the trash barrels every day. Only one year's production at St. Louis-Corvette would generate 40,000 individual build records, and there was nowhere to store that volume of paperwork.

Yes, they had enough problems at St. Louis storing things they NEEDED to store let alone the things they didn't need to store.

Okay, I may as well go ahead and fess up. I have copies of the build sheets for every Corvette. I stored them in a warehouse right next to Amelia Earhart's plane. The security guard's name is Elvis and he can give you the tour.

Elvis said that if I gave you the secret password ("fried peanut butter and banana sandwich") then you would give me my invoice. My Corvette is a one-off 830 HP SB (automatic and air) signed by somebody named 'Zora'--what an odd name!

OK Donald, but I think we've had the tour right here!

To return to reality, Art Armstrong of GM Legal, was given a 6 month assignment to find such records by Jim Perkins, Chevrolet's Honcho. Part of the reason was Perkin's own cars. No thunderbolts or conspiracies, the records were simply not retained. When St Louis was closing, I sent a Certified Mail letter to MacDonald, offering to purchase the records under whatever restrictions he/Chevy wanted - they did not exist.

<I own a `67 small block. Not only has there never been a financial incentive to mess with them, but these cars keep getting rarer as big block production continues to be on the rise.

I only remember seeing two big blocks when the cars were new. One 396 and one 427.

The 427, 67 was the only Sting Ray I saw with the factory aluminum wheels and the side exhaust.

Now it seems like every C2 is a big block with factory aluminum wheels and side exhausts!

I'll bet there are some people hoping those records never show up. Dale

Those records are not going to surface, but think of how the market would get strange if they did.

Say Bubba has a bogus matching number 67, 435 Red convertible. Now, all of a sudden the records surface and his car is documented as a base motor blue car.

Do you think he will go out and buy all of the parts to put it back. He'll need a motor, hood, instument cluster, plus, plus, plus.............. Think that will happen ??? It sure would make those 67 small block hoods go up in value !! Just a thought. Like I've said for years. I don't think these records will ever appear.

Tom, you are probably right that these records will never reappear, but they probably do still exist.

It depends on what St. Louis (or the municipality that the factory was in) did with thier garbage. Most likely it went to a landfill and not an incinerator. If so, the dumpsters were dumped in certain areas of the open landfill depending upon where the landfill operator was working. Under the anaerobic conditions of a modern sanitary landfill, the records should still be in reasonbly good condition. If the landfill was not compacted very well, or if the records are near the top and the layers were not capped, then the records might not be in such good shape.

It would be very difficult to locate all of the records, and even more difficult to convince the landfill owner to let you "mine" thier landfill (of which these sections are probably closed by now). And let's not forget about the cost to recover them and then repair the landfill.

Like you said before, these records will probably never reappear.
