    1968-72 T-Top Tie Down Straps

Do original T-Top Tie Down Straps have any type of tag or part number on them?

Are they reproduced? If so, how do you tell originals from repops?

I can't remember seeing any sewn tags like the seat belt labels, or any other identification on my 70 straps. Keep in mind that there were about three different versions of these straps during those years.

Those straps should not be that hard for a seat belt supplier to reproduce, but I haven't shopped to confirm this, and consequently have no idea how such repros, if any, would judge. Without additional input here on reproductions, I would check vendors to see what they offer, and compare them with known originals.

My original 69 straps don't have any tags or part numbers on them.

I can't really comment on the repops but if there is a difference I'll bet it's in the webing. If I was really concerned I'd contact Al Knoch and see what they have because they are probably as close as you'd get.

Chuck what are the three types? My Jan 69 car has two separate straps(one for each panel) but I have seen some that are one piece like a "Y".

Yes, does anyone know the differences and which is correct for a 1968? I know I should have inquired before purchasing, but I just bought one on a whim off Epay.

It is black and a one piece "Y" configuration. Here is a link and there is a photo:

Anyone out there with original straps in there 1968 Coupe?

1969 & 1970 has the two-piece. The hooks are on the floor and the wheel wells. 1971 & 1972 has the Y- shape with hooks on the wheel wells and on the front of the bulkhead.

Someone else will have to comment on the 1968 style. I don't know what it is like.

My '71 is a Y shape and has IRVIN and a parachute on the snap end.

The guys that restore 68s are a breed apart, and few between...my best advice is to check your AIM (Awww, man...Don't tell me you don't have a 68 AIM! ). Details on the 70 style strap is shown in UPC 1, Sheet F30...your 68 strap details should be close to that sheet number.

Gregster (Linton), three strap configurations was just an intuitive guess on my part (about?) from reading about other MYs here on the TDB...e.g. I thought there was a single strap version, double strap version (69-70), and a three strap version (71-72?). I may have that "single strap" version confused with the 71-72 "Y" configuration, which is probably also actually two straps, but I have no idea what's right here for years other than 70. Like Terry said, "It's a good thing I don't judge interiors".
