    wonderbar Question

Can anybody tell me what the little red needle does on the front of my wonderbar. Its sits just below the big push button that says wonderbar.

It is the sensitivity button. It is the signal setting area.Wide open seeks all signals, the lower you set it, it seeks strong signal's.

      Stewy,

I think you are talking about the sensitivity selector. It has three positions. When set on the left, when you push your Wonderbar, it seeks only the strongest stations. On the right, even very weak stations. And, in the middle, intermediate strength stations.

Give it a try and see if your Wonderbar works.

Do you push it with your finger from left to right or does it roam independantly. Its out of car getting ready to be sent for a service so I can't try it. I just bought it and the needle intrigued me as what the hell it does.. Stewy

As others said, it serves the signal seeking station sensitivity function. Its function is defined in your copy of the car's owners manual...

BTW, mis-setting the sensitivity switch can result in the Wonderbar going into an infinite seek condition (never finding a suitable station to stop on). This can be BAD for the radio!

The solenoid(s) that control the mechanical seek function of the radio's tuner section were NOT designed for 100% duty cycle operation and will burn up if the radio cycles for too long in its station seek mode!

A few back to back sweeps of the dial are OK. But, if left to seek constantly, damage can result with the safeguard being the 7.5A fuse in the main fuse block. That's a part some prior owners changed out for larger valued components because they were blowing fuses...NOT a good idea!
