    Intake Manifold Torque

My '66 BB has gone maybe 200 miles since a complete engine rebuild, and I want to retorque the intake manifold. Is it better to retorque it when hot or cold and what is the proper torque as I have had different lbs. mentioned?
    Thanks.

    Re: Intake Manifold Torque

As long as you followed the proper torquing sequence originally, working your way from the center to the outer edge, I have never found a need for re-torquing period. There is no load on the intake that I can think of and the only issue that I can think of is a vacuum leak. An intake does not move or under stress so it doesn't require re-torquing like wheels might. But if you want to, I would do it when it was cold as far as I know, the torque specs are for cold. The torque specs are set for cold on an engine assembly as the factory didn't fire up those engines and then re-torque.

      Larry,

I think most specs assume that you are doing this when cold, but others may have reasons for doing it hot. I'd go with 25-30 pounds of torque and go over the sequence three times to get up to torque, say 15, 20, 25 or 20, 25, 30. The sequence is, from front to back on the pass side, 12 11 4 1 5 6 and on the driver side 10 9 3 2 7 8.
