    1971 Deluxe Door Walnut Trim

I have looked for real wood inserts for my door panels and all that I have found is synthetic or formica type junk. If I have to I will buy veneer and make them, but if anyone has any link to a source I would appreciate it.

Mine have cupped from time and humidity and just flake off.

    Thanks

Yep, I know of nobody who make the deluxe trim pieces out of real wood... So, you've got a built-in market for your product!

      Jack,

I am a Pain in the butt with this car, so if I get it right, with the veneer, I will let you know. Thanks for the reply.

I've always thought that with a good laser cutter one could make excellent repros of the door and center console veneer quite easily. Those computer controlled cutters are very interesting, but at $8k or so I haven't yet found them "fun enough" to buy one as a toy.

However, find someone who has the machine already and you're well on your way. The alternate is scroll cutting or die cutting. Again, no such machine in my garage. A quick search of the web shows many businesses who would likely be happy to help.

          Thanks Patrick,

That gives me some ideas. I have a friend who makes decals, big stuff for boats and the like. He uses a computer and maybe Corel Draw or something. These cars!

I know several people who have attempted these in the past. I don't know why they have not been successful. There is certainly a market for them--yours truly included. I ripped my water damaged ones off twenty years ago before I found I could not replace them.

I used to have a 75 with them also. They peeled off after turning black from water damage. If I could get a sample to make the dies from I think I could make them. I have a die cutter that would cut them out......I think. We have cut stiff paper board as well as leather. I'm sure it would cut thin veneer as well. Being in the furniture capital of the world (High Point) we have all types of equipment here to do wood working. I am going to do a little investigating on this.
