    Da! 54 on e-bay

    http://cgi.liveauctions.ebay.com/S117-1954-Chevrolet-Corvette-Convertible-235-150-HP_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ28193QQihZ013QQitemZ 230265407384QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

I'm looking at this 140K 54 on e-bay restored showing the frame and they have the rear springs installed under the rear cross member and not over it as original ,they must have repro high sitting front coil springs and did that to match the way the 54 sits.

    Roy,
Maybe you can sell him the correct mirror and a radio.
He can throw them in if it sells for $140,000.00.

I installed my springs the 1st time wrong, like in your picture. After the body was on the car sat really high. I changed the to be correct, a lot harder with the body.

Roy that looks like its ment to be that way. Is it possible to do the same by mistake with the later 58's. I gather the car body would be lower to the ground the proper way. Have you a photo you can post of the correct way I think it would be interesting. Stewy

                  Roy-

You have a sharp eye. I didn't catch the spring issue when I checked out the ebay listing.

Here is a pic of my 53, just to compare the spring orientation. My 53 has 314k miles and was modified over the years for performance. You should be able to see a number of things that do not look correct for a 53 car. But the spring orientation is correct. At least my car sits at the right height.

The right way is obvious to most people, the rear spring goes over the rear cross member (sorry I don't have a pic) but some people also install the front spring brackets from the wrong year Corvette. See pic. Then that really makes the geometry off making a Corvette sit low on one side if there mixed !(one year bracket on one side an another year on the other side ) This happens on basket cases being restored. I've seen mix up parts on top flights and hate to tell the owner because he thinks I'm nuts.
I've try telling an owner why his Corvette points to the stars and I get an argument , So I just say nothing any more!!

It's not my place to tell you what's wrong or right , if your happy I'm happy . I see you have a 62 bango as a rear end . 53-55 rear end is the weakest part of a 53 to 55.you blow it, there is no fixing it.I see many having later bango's

I'm working on the 53, which needs alot of TLC, so if you see something wrong, please tell me. 53 #276 was set up for performance, and I am going to keep it that way. Most of the stuff in the pic doesn't belong on a 53 (the 5 leaf springs, banjo, etc).

Here is a pic of my 54. The spring orientation looks the same (minus a leaf) to my untrained eye.

                        Thanks,

54 looks OK all I see is that the shock lower nut is missing the large washer

OK, I found some pics from GM. Forget about my pics. Here is the correct setup according to GM photos circa 1953.

                              Question...

Are all solid axle rear crossmemembers riveted to the frame rail from the factory..not bolted! And would the existance of bolts identify a replacement rear crossmember.

When did the rear spring attachment to crossmember move below the rear crossmember..if it did?
