    L-46 alternator pulley

Is the correct pulley for an L-46 w/AC, PS the black one piece with the fan? 2 3/4"? The alternator is an 1100884.

Check your copy of the AIM book, option section C60.... The '884 alternator was replaced with a '544 alternator for later year Sharks and my copy of the '71 AIM clearly calls out discrete PN's for the fan and pulley instead of a 1-piece fan/pulley assy...

No 1970 Corvette ever used a one piece alternator fan/pulley assembly. Your application originally used stamped steel pulley GM #1949355 and fan GM #1966990 as pictured below.

However, the one piece fan/pulley assemblies used for some 1968 and older applications will function just about perfectly for your application.

Joe, I'm asking about a late 1969 not 1970. Does that change your reply?

Joe, The reason I asked about '69 vs '70 is that my Judging Guide says for '69 w/PS & AC a one piece, 3909817AW. Isn't that a black one? The JG also shows that 1100884 was used for 61 amp applications on both big & small blocks. I guess I didn't make it clear that I was asking about a 1969.

My answer would be the same for 1969 as for 1970. I do not think the 3909817 was used for 1969 or 1970. Is it POSSIBLE it was? Yes, it's possible but I don't think so. I think it's VERY possible, even likely, it was used for 1968, though. The 3909817 is finished in black, either phosphate or paint.

Thank you Joe. I guess the Judging Guide needs a correction. For those of us who don't have the knowledge, it's tough to get it right. After years of searching and paying big bucks, I have an 1100884 with the one piece 2 3/4" black pulley/fan.

Thanks for your time; I really appreciate your responses.

I'm going to have to at least partially retract what I said earlier. I did some further checking and I get conflicting information on whether the 3909817 was used for 1969 L-46 with C-60 and N-40. Personally, I have never seen such a pulley on a 1969. However, there are not too many 1969 L46 with C-60 and N-40. So, maybe I missed it.

The AIM does indicate that the 3909817 was used for 1969 L-46 with C-60 and N-40. GM SERVICE parts information dating from 1969 indicates otherwise.

Personally, I have not seen an original SI series alternator (as used for all 1969+) that used a one piece pulley/fan assembly.

Also, I see no reason why a 1969 L-46 with C-60 would have used a different alternator pulley with or without N-40. The addition of N-40 in no way otherwise changes the engine pulley configuration. GM parts information indicates the same alternator pulley was used for L-46 with C-60 with or without N-40. That's exactly how I believe it should be. The AIM indicates, or at least implies, the pullies were different. That doesn't make sense to me.
