    Engine "run in" stand

This may be a little "off topic", so I will apologize right off the bat. Does anyone have any formal plans for building a stand for putting an engine on for initial start up? The kind with radiator, battery, starter switch, etc.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I use the frame before the body drop. I made a small box with the needed switches. I keep the battery cables and every thing that is need in a box till I need it again.

      Lyle,

I also did my startup and run in with engine in chassis. I borrowed my box from Bill Sangrey, but Bill had an article in the Restorer a few years back on how to build the box. Do you or anyone remember what issue this was?

My plan is to use the frame as well.

Years ago, there was an article in The Corvette Restorer with details on how to build a "dashboard" box using some aftermarket oil pressure and temp gauges, an electronic tach, on/off switch for the ignition, ballast resistor, and a starter button.

Bob, looks like we posted that same info almost simultaneously...the Restorer issue was Volume 25, Number One, Summer 1998.

Now, Patrick, play nice...it's the journey that's important, not the destination.

You sure your grandkids want to complete the journey for you?

Well, if I don't "finish the race", the good news for you, and/or others, might be that my wife will have a complete 70 coupe restoration kit with lots of original parts for sale. (Unlike Joe, they will ALL be for sale.)

If I were you, I wouldn't be slow to pay my condolences.

Don't worry - if anything happens to me there are plenty of NOS electrical parts that will be for sale cheap.

It's only 13 months until San Jose.

I'll show up early and finish it myself if I have to.

                          Back to start-up....
For the big buck guys, Eastwood has the complete start-up stand for $499.99, less 10%. For us budget guy's...a remote started, a oil pressure gauge with some fittings and a garden hose with a made up adator, plus a pool drain hose works nicely with the engine in the chassis......and don't forget to check out the oil pressure before starting.

And don't forget to have some 'dummy' exhaust pipes/mufflers on hand! You can do ear damage and accidentally induce shop fire(s) it you run the engine with straight dumps from the exhaust manifold...
