Are the rear spring rebuild kits sold by the major vendors all about the same or is one a better choice than the other? Also is the hardware or "banding" kit included with the rebuild kit? Is there any reasonable way to crimp the bands at home without a banding tool? Rich

Re: C-1 Rear Spring Liners
Richard,
The liner kit I got from Zip was fine. Just remove the metal tips from the shortest one. The bands were another matter. They are supposed to have the tick marks on them. Mine were blank, so I sharpened a screwdriver and spent two hours adding them. Later, I found that the bands are available with the tick marks!
I am not sure about the thickness of the ones with tick marks compared with mine, but mine were thick and stiff. I took them to a spring service shop and the guy used a banding tool like used for putting metal strapping around boxes and things to be shipped. It was such a job for him that he didn't charge me. He just said please don't make me do another one!
So, hopefully, the ones with tick marks are thinner. If you do it at home, make sure you have the banding tool. If not, take it to a shop, but don't do it yourself if you can't get them tight.
