Help - Need Starter Part No. Lookup

    Hi,

    I have a Delco-Remy Starter with part no. 1108368, date code 9-K-16.

Can someone possibly look this up in a GM/Chevy parts guide to identify the applications for this starter?

Thanks in advance for your help.

That PN corresponds to a Lester Cat number 3635. Lester doesn't say what originally shipped on this/that vehicle from the factory, but what will fit/work.

Included in the 'fit/work' list are '58-62 Chevy's including 283 Bel Air, Biscayne, Impala and Corvette, but the physical Delco PN is incorrect to be a factory original starter for those vehicles.

Since the starter is dated '9 K 16', at least the case portion was assembled in 1969 (rebuilders often change nose, armature, field windings, Etc.) and the Lester cross reference list of vehicles from that era include quite a few Chevy/GMC trucks as well as Allis Chalmers and Massey Ferguson combines.

Bottom line, the fact that the PN isn't a match for a factory concours Corvette about says it all. Knowing what vehicle it really shipped out the door on rarely buys you much....

GM starter #1108368 was originally used for 1968-72 Chevrolet light truck with 6 cylinder and 307 V-8 engines and 3 speed manual transmissions. Per the date, the one you have was originally installed on an early 1970 model. This starter was never available in SERVICE so it could not have started life that way.

The starter you have may not be completely configured as it was originally. If it's been through a commercial rebuilding operation, likely all that remains of the original unit is the frame (the part with the stamped numbers on it).
