1971 Berger Performance LT-1?

I got hit with that one today. I will never profess to knowing everything commonly known about LT-1s but that was a new one. The question I was asked was how to decode one as a Berger Performance LT-1. I never even heard of a Berger LT-1! So I Googled it and sure enough there is one for sale on the Web. 350CI, 400 HP, 202 heads. How would one know if they had one?

The one I find for sale on the internet has a Berger sticker in place of the usual emissions sticker. That's it.

What I do see is a bevy of aftermarket recent vintage Edelbrock parts as well as some interesting replaced items. They list it as "fully restored" and having an automatic transmission. Both of those descriptions are incorrect.

I suspect it's at best an LT-1 with a bunch of crap on it that happens to also have a Berger sticker under the hood. Nothing more.

since berger is still in business check with them using the VIN to see if they built the car

Worth a try, but very little under the hood is still 1971 vintage stuff.
And, Berger wasn't great at keeping records.

I think the only "LT-1" thing about that car is the hood. It shows a high RPM tach, but those can get changed...didn't look like T.I. was on the car, dig the cool custom fan shoud.....but it's got that AWESOME STICKER!!
But it being an automatic.....ouch, that hurts.
