Does anyone know where I can get a wiring diagram and/or operations manual for a power top assembly for a 56? Switch operations? I have the original set up in the car with switches in place, but the wiring has been uplugged before. I've never pulled the power top swtich. The cylinders are not hooked up the frame. I'll need it for a PV Test one of these days, (maybe) if I'm lucky. Thanks

Re: 56 Power Top
The 56-57 Assembly Manual (AIM) has a fair amount of mechanical and wiring diagrams for the power tops. As far as operation goes, the 57 Operations Manual has instructions on the operation of the top.
Good luck.

The '56 power top wiring is significantly different than the '57, which is the one shown in the Assembly Manual. The "NCRS 1953-1972 Corvette Electrical Wiring Diagrams" book is the only place I've ever seen the correct version of the '56 power top wiring diagram. That book is available at the "NCRS Store" link at the top of the page.- Top

Re: 56 Power Top
Among other things, I have received some portions of the power top linkage and electrical that Bob D'Olivo removed from the '56 West Coast Racer. Included therein were THREE "horn relays" for lack of a better description - I have NOT found these included in any Power top diagram that I have seen - guidance???- Top

I've had several iterations of C1 power top systems apart (while "learning" for the C1 power top operation/restoration article I wrote in the November '07 issue of CE), and I don't recall relay-type devices in any of them. That said, all of them use plunger-type safety switches for the top compartment lid and the trunk lid, limit switches on the lift cylinders for the top linkage and for the top compartment lid, and a circuit breaker on top of the firewall in the main power feed wire. Got a photo of the devices you found?- Top

Re: 56 Power Top
Jerry,
My '56 had the original power top when I restored it. It also had the original wiring harness that I replaced with a harness from Lectric Limited. I believe that I have pictures of what you need as well as a large color diagram created by Don Olsen here in the Chicago land area. Let me know at what stage of installation you are currently and I will see if I can help.
BTW- don't let the know-it-all at Lectric Limited tell you that you need the $150 worth of pig-tails for your '56. '57 yes, but not "56. Do you have the two sets of toggle switches and the two plunger switches? John Hinckley is dead one (as usual) the '56 and '57 switches are totally different.

Re: 56 Power Top
Thanks to John and Garry. Yes Garry, I do have the two plunger and two toggle switches. As fas as the restoration goes on the top, I haven't gotten into the switches or cylinders yet. I'll be in St. Charles with the car if you're going to be there.- Top

Re: 56 Power Top
Jerry,
There are actually two sets of toggle switches as Roy has shown in the post prior to this one. Thanks Roy, you made this easy! In fact the only thing that Roy doesn't show that is part of the electrical components is the plunger safety switch that mounts in the bracket that attaches to the top of the glove box and is activated by the deck lid. It has four blade connectors. Roy shows the bracket but not the switch. The one in the trunk (as shown) only has two connectors.
Are you needing help with the harness or other things? I will be at BG Wednesday pm through Friday. The best days for me would be Wed. or Thurs. to try to meet up. I can loan you my diagram if that would help, or you can take notes from it. Feel free to email me and we can make some contact arrangements.
