    360HP valve cover decals

    My 63 FI car has one water soluable 360HP decal and one fake one that sticks on. I remember one of the water ones shriveled up and died in the water.
    I believe I bought the water soluable ones from MF Dobbins maybe 20 plus years ago. Qt: Does anyone sell the correct ones that will fly thru judging? Thanx, JD

    Why don't you give Dobbins a call (215-657-8571)? The decals are probably still available. He always has a load of them at his booth at Carlisle. Out of dumb luck, Dob lives nearby and I was referred to him to inspect my car prior to purchase. We've become good friends since that time and he's been a tremendous help in guiding me through the nuances of the restoration of my '66. Good luck!

        LICS has them.
        Believe Paragon has them, too. Zip has the fake ones. CC might have the water "soluable" ones.
        ASK FIRST before you buy.
        Locate them 3/8" below the ribs on the cover, according to the 1965TIM&JG, thet is, unless it's been changed (again).
        If you Scotch tape them on, they won't shrivel up.
        Also, be sure that the H2O you soak them in is alcohol free.

          On top of that the dude had a chew in his mouth. The nerve. Wait till that farmer calls again for nice cheep FI part though.
          Hey Dr. at least the left one(that's the drivers side RA) was real deal.
          Course the radiator decal was dinged also. Supposed to be real 1/8" thick one instead of thin reynold wrap one. Could be 1/16" though.Supposed to be really thick decal on rad for Feb-Mar 63. That's hot off the press in the 5th.
          What it comes down to is some judges only know about decals don't u think. PBAB. JD

            John -- here's a bunch of Dobbins' decals that are at least 20 yrs old; you can see the "water soluble" stamp on the back of one of the 365HP valve cover stickers. Bought 'em for my '65 C60/L76 and still aren't installed .

              Wayne, This afternoon I found a bunch in an old Macundo cigar box. Old Dobbins ones I had but lost a long time ago. So between the two sets I should be able to use one for sure. Thanks for taking the time to put up the neat pic. John

                    I think we had the same thought on that one. Now that would be a conflict of interest if there ever was one.

                      John;

                      I hesitated before putting my two cents worth in on this one, but being as how your last reply was very kind - here goes; My last set of water solubles were put on in about 1992. They are starting to peel/fray off at the top edges now so I am about to change them. I too keep a few sets around as when I last bought them (90's) they were even cheaper. This will be part of one of my weekend maintenance projects; remove covers, clean with Alumiwash, replace decals, check valve adjustment according to the "Duke Williams 90 degree method", then replace covers. Oh yes! I'm also going back to the correct (for mine) hex head valve cover screws (after all these years w/ phillips heads). I always liked the phillps heads best as they were easy to tighten with a big screw driver. The hex heads require a thin socket (as I recall).
