    C2 Underlayment Question

    Any idea why the carpet underlayment doesn't extend up the sides in the rear folding top area (1965)? Does the carpet really install directly onto the fiberglass over the rear wheelhouses? Anyone padded these areas anyway and not had any fit issues?

    There are a total of 4 sections of underlayment for the rear storage area.
    See attached photos of 1965 convertible:

      Joe: thanks, but the photos show the underlayment going all the way up the sides, over the wheel hump, and up to the drip rail. The kits being sold, as well as my original underlayment, don't go up onto the wheel well. What your photo shows, I think, is the way GM should have done it.

        Well, then, I successfully answered your third question.

        The carpet was installed four years ago. The carpet was from Al Knoch. I don't remember where the underlayment was from, but it was a kit for the entire floorpan for 1965. At the time, IARC, the 1963 and '64 had a different kit, with much less underlayment. Perhaps your car was originally a 1964 model?

        If you like, I can look through my receipts, to find out where I bought it. No guarantee, of course that it is still being sold, because the "correct" way of doing things keeps changing with each iteration of some of the TIM&JG's.

          Here's what the LICS kit provides

          I had saved my original underlayment, and this "shorty" piece does seem to match the OEM pattern. But I think I'm going to fill in the bare spots with some 1/4" material just for the heck of it.
          Has anyone purchased a kit where the sides go all the way up?

            Hello;

            Kits we purchased (2007) from Auto Accessories of America had rear wheel padding included.

            Hope this helps.

              Re: C2 Underlayment Question,correction

              Sorry GENTLEMEN;

              Thought the kits had pads and we did not use, because none originally.

              Just looked at box and don't have rear wheel interior padding.
