    Member experience with carb rebuilder

I'm looking for a rochester q-jet 7029204 for my '69 427/390 auto. A google search shows this advertiser in Hemmings Motor news. My car is a Nov 69 build. I called him earlier today and he said he a March dated carb which is too earlier. He called back later and said he had a 7029204 dated June 16th and it could be ready by Wednesday next week for a price of $1,095. He reports he fully restors the car with acid dip, bushing rebuild, replating, bench and flow tseting.

    Thanks....Don

The web hemmings link is pasted below. His add is the one one with the contact info as Jeff at 610-562-3626

I just noticed that hemmings has a search function for their ads. Two points:
    1. I see he has has posted only one add in May of 2008
    2. Perhaps we should look at a similar function for driveline

Don, I cannot access the Hemmings ad. Is this the guy in Chicago? As a side, I just bought a Q-jet for my 70 350/350 from a rebuilder in Long Island, New York. Numbers matching and a good build date (June 16, interesting!) for my car. With the exception of some minor adjustments it worked out great. Let me know which rebuilder this is.
      Thanks.

Re: Member experience with carb rebuilder

I think the price of this carb is on the high side because Joe said this part number was used on lots of cars other than Corvettes that year. I have had lots of bad luck with carb rebuilders and have not used this person. If it was correct in all ways the first time you put it on your engine you soon forget the price. I spent two years with two restorers and shiping twice to both and had to rebuild a carb myself in the end.
        Good Luck

          All,

          1. The ad just shows the name Jeff and the phone number above with the 610 area code.

          2. Do you have any contact info for your successfull rebuilders?

          Don

Was it perhaps Long Island Corvette Supply?

Would not have been Long Island, they deal strictly in '63-'67 parts

This carb rebuilder is from PA. He always has an ad in Hemmings under Chevelle and Camaro parts with tons of quadrajets available. I talked to him a month ago looking for a `72 Monte 454 carb which is rare. Quote was $695 and 4-6 weeks to get it ready

Make a call from a different phone and ask the price of the same number dated carb for a different model Chevy than a Corvette.
Joe listed them in his reply. It may cost less you never know till you try.

Is the ad for Jeff's dated components, if so he is well know in Camaro and Chevelle circles. I don't know how good his rebuilds are but he does ask "TOP" dollar for anything he sells.

that may make him think he has onother customer for that carb and start a bidding war
