My passenger side headlight will not stay up. It just comes up and rocks in place when I turn the lights on. It opens and closes fine....although when closing the motor runs on a few seconds after it's closed. Can I attempt to fix this myself or just take it in to the dealer. Thanks for the help.

Re: 89 Coupe headlight
Richard I have an 85 and had trouble with the drivers side many years ago. Easy to remove the headlight assembly from the car, first remove the headlight cover. Unbolt the headlight assembly and take it to your work area to inspect the gearing. My 85's gears were chewed up. Replaced with gearing with the plastic/nylon gears from www.mamotorworks.com .
Just checked my www.mamotorworks.com catalog and see that your 89 headlight gearing is different from my 85's. Something new that I had now viewed in previous catalogs from them is that you can buy only the replacement Deirin bushings (set of 3) that are placed in the gear. I am still hunting for a supplier of the 4 rubber cushions/shock absorbers for the 84-87 gear.Last edited by Jim T.; June 17, 2008, 11:29 AM.- Top

Re: 89 Coupe headlight
Those three little fiber bushings dry up and disinegrate. By the way while you are doing one do the other. When one goes the other will soon follow. The right side takes a little longer to do for some reason, about 1 1/2 hours. The left only about an hour. I got some solid fiber rod from Lowes and made mine, placed them in the housing with a little vaseline to hold them and back together it went. Not a bad job once you get started. Tom- Top
