1960 Hood

I need a hood for my 1960 corvette. Will a 59, 61, or 62 also work? I will be looking for one at Bloomington in 2 weeks. Anyone? Thanks DG

The underneath side of 59, 60, 61 & 62 hoods are different. ( see Roy Braatz picture posted in Dec. 2007) If keeping the car original is not a concern... they will fit, unless you have a top tank radiator.

Here's that hood photo - note the difference in the forward rib on the inner panel on the '60-'61 hood and the depression in the center of that rib on the '61-'62 hood.

The hood I have is an old cruddy hood with an amateur hood scoop installed. The hood scoop install did not cut into the backbone/ribs of the hood. My hood looks like the 59-60 hood in the picture, second from the left in the picture. Is the third hood from the left in the picture for top tank radiators only. My 60 serial number is 8234 making her build date about the 1st week in June of 60. Has anyone here bought a repo. hood. Are they any good, with the correct rivets. I will be changing oiut the hood surround this summer on the 60. So I need a hood. At this time, my old hood sits almost 1/2 inch too high in the front after several attempts to lower. Thanks DG

Thanks for the clarification... I guess then that the second from the left hood will not work with a top tank rad then?

My 60 is 8065 and is a May 27, 1960 build date. If my hood is the 3rd from the left is it correct for a 2 X 4 245HP car ?

I sent an e-mail with the picture from this thread to Tim Mickey the 58-60 Technical Lead and this is his response which clarifies if the hoods were different for the different engines. He also noticed the 60-61 hood in the picture was a reproduction. Since my hood has the taper at the front then it must be original.

The third hood from the left is the closest reproduction hood for your 1960. It is close, but not correct. The tapered area near the front edge of the hood was tapered on original hoods, not squared off as in the photo. Engine HP had no effect on hood design.

Hello Tim - my hood loook likes the 3rd hood from the left in this picture posted on the NCRS forum. Is it correct for my 245HP 1960 #8065 built 5/27/60 ? Would that answer change if my car was a 230HP or 270HP ? Would it change for an FI car ?
