    Accelerator spring

The accelerator spring I bought with is supposed to be a "correct reproduction" is really wimpy and barely closes the carb when I let off the pedal. I have lubed all the points on the pedal linkage, it moves freely, carb is a rebuilt, maybe a bit tight just yet... Any recommendations on a beefier spring and who might sell it? Could do trial and error, but would rather get the right one from the start. TIA

For what year and carb/F.I./H.P. configuration are you talking about?

I have the same problem. The accelerator return spring for my 67 300HP which I got from LIC will not consistently close the carb. The spring is too "wimpy".

As Michael has not come back with I.D. on what he is dealing with yet (53 -55), I will comment on my 63 as well. For the longest time I have made due with a modification of the white spring specified in ALL parts catalogs as corect for the 340 hp (it is not). I finally put on the black one from the 64-67 shp's. It works well, but is a little softer than I am used to so I have to relearn my shifting technique, both up and down. I'm giving it too much throttle now.
