    1957 dipstick

The 56-57 JM describes the dipstick configuration but not the finish.
In some early pictures they appear black.
Whats the correct color and finish?
    Thanks,
    Bruce B.

Bruce, per the GM drawing - the upper handle is zinc or CAD plate and the lower portion below the rivets is natural finish. Nothing's painted. Probably darkened by age. Gary....

      Gary,
      Thanks so much.
I'm almost done with the 57.
Next challange is starting it, it's a FI 250 HP Powerglide car.
      Thanks again,
      Bruce B.

Bruce, looking forward to seeing it at a meet. Don't forget to fill the torque convertor up with fluid before you install it. If it's in the car already, make sure you put in sufficient enough transmission fluid. Think it's 9 or 10 qts but not for sure - CRS. Remember to prime/spin up the engine oil pump. Good luck with getting it started. Keep us posted. Gary....

          Gary,
Thanks for the advice. I primed the oil system, put in ATF, flushed the fuel system, put in 5 gal of avation gas 100LL and am looking forward to hearing it run.

Bruce, don't forget to prime the FI unit. Unscrew the bracket out of the way and fill the FI pump up through the vent hole with a squeeze bulb.

Incidentally, the dip stick CAD/Zinc is flat finish, not bright. Gary....

                Gary;

                The old 57 breathes again.
#809 250 HP FI, Powerglide, started , ran well and I broke the engine in today.
Oh what a relief it was to hear it run. Great oil pressure, nice even temperature and a great sound.
Some minor issues, small water leak, valves a little loud but nothing that can't be fixed in a few hours.
When I get the carpet and seats installed it can be considered done.
Thanks for the valuable advice from fellow NCRS members.

Bruce, Your engine looks really nice. And it has a '4360 to boot. Wow. Good job. JD

                    John,
                    Thanks for the kind words.
The 4360 was rebuilt before I bought the car, Bob Williams here in Ohio did the work. He has also been helpful by answering lots of questions.
Some of you FI experts are really nice guys.

Bruce,Thanks for kind compliments. Bob Williams is one of the good guys. He forgot more about FI's than most people know. See a nice article about him in a recent Corvette Enthusiasts. Nice fellow as you are also.
Bob likes to make those old 4360's run. Good luck with your resto.
I may have a 57 dipstick or two around here. When I was looking for the real deal dipstick for my 63 FI car I got whizzed a lot on ebay and bought my share of wrong ones. John D.

Bruce, looking good. Can't wait to see it on the Judging Field. Don't often get 4360 units to Judge. Great job! Gary....

Thanks for the dipstick offer , but I also have a few.
Well, time to hit the road, going to Goodguys Show in Columbus, Ohio with the old 62. It's usually lots of fun.
