    1968 Corvette smog

    I am assuming 1968 GM trucks and cars also had smog systems. Is anything on those smog systems interchangeable with the 1968 Corvette smog system such as brackets, etc or were the Corvette systems unique to Corvette?

    Thanks,
    Scott

    Other than the pump itself and possibly the check valves, probably nothing else is the same as the Corvette items.

      1968-69 GM cars and trucks did have AIR systems. However, for most Chevrolets, the system was limited to applications with MANUAL transmissions. An exception was 1968-69 Corvettes which were equipped with AIR regardless of transmission.

      With respect to 1968 Corvette AIR system components:

      1) PUMP----same for BB and SB; same as used for all other 1968 Chevrolets with AIR

      2) PUMP BRACKET----specific to SB and BB; both unique to Corvettes

      3) PUMP BRACE-----specific to SB and BB; both unique to Corvettes

      4) DIVERTER VALVE----specific to SB and BB; SB valve shared with some 1968 series 10 and 20 trucks; BB valve unique to Corvettes;

      5) CHECK VALVES----common to all 1968 Chevrolets with AIR

      6) AIR HOSES----common to other Chevrolet applications;

      7) MANIFOLD PIPES ("trees")----specific for SB and BB; common to passenger car and other Chevrolet applications;

      8) PUMP PULLEY----specific to SB and BB applications; BB pulley shared with some BB passenger cars; SB pulley unique to Corvettes;

      9) EXHAUST MANIFOLDS----specific to SB and BB applications; SB manifolds shared with many other Chevrolet passenger car and truck applications; BB manifolds unique to Corvette (although also used for 1966 passenger car with L-72).

      By the way, what sometimes confuses the AIR pump issue is the fact that 1966-67 Corvettes with K-19 used a pump that was unique to Corvettes. 1968-82 used, successively, different models of AIR pumps which are in no case unique to Corvettes and are shared with many other GM cars.
