    66 shifter linkage adjustments

Hey Guys: is there a procedure/protocol for adjusting the linkage rods on a Muncie 4 speed? Is there a particular order to do this? Thanks for your help. By the way, I am not really new to the TDB. I just haven't used it since it got this new facelift!

    Gary -

The adjustment procedure is detailed in your Assembly Manual in section M20, sheet A3.

I found this to be a lot easier if you use a feeler gauge type tool described in the assembly manual to line up the slot in the levers.

With the rods connected at the shifter end....

Set all three levers on the transmission in neutral.

Insert a thin, flat piece of metal about 3/8" wide into the slot in the bracket that the shift levers are mounted to.

While keeping the shift levers lined up against the piece of metal, or whatever you decide to use, adjust the rod for 1st & 2nd(middle lever) gear to fit.

Do the same with the reverse(rear lever) and then 3rd & 4th(forward lever) gear.

If you have good access you can align the levers on the shifter visually without actually inserting anything into the slot.
